Named for its shape, the Horseshoe Bar
has, over many years, been a meeting point for politicians, journalists, sportsmen, movie stars and local personalities.

A myriad selection of famous writers have visited here, including Elizabeth Bowen, William Makepeace Thackeray and Rudyard Kipling. It is claimed Brendan Behan spent the earnings from his work 'Borstal Boy' within its walls.

It has recently undergone refurbishment and was repainted in its original shade of red. Due to its proximity to Dail Eireann (the National Parliament), Government Buildings and Seanad Eireann(The Senate, it is perenially favoured by a great number of politicians, 'hacks' and journalists.

The idea to form a traditional music group to be named 'The Chieftains' was first aired in the Horseshoe Bar.
