National Archives of Ireland

Occupying a key position in the cultural and intellectual life of the nation, the National Archives of Ireland holds the records of the modern Irish State which document its historical evolution and the creation of our national identity. It has custody of archives relating to the administration of the state from the late 18th century to the late 20th century, and many other archives dating from the 14th century to the late 20th century.

The National Archives of Ireland is located in Bishop Street, Dublin 8, close to the city centre and within ten minutes walk of the St Stephen’s Green Luas line. Admittance is by appointment only.

Any member of the public in possession of a valid reader’s ticket is permitted to access the reading room of the National Archives. You need to apply online prior to your visit, and detailed information is provided regarding your visit.
