Since Jóhannsson's untimely death in 2018, Drone Mass has come to be regarded as the Icelandic composer's crowning achievement.

Drone Mass isn’t really a mass. It’s a mysterious and richly atmospheric work inspired by ancient Egyptian Coptic hymn.
