Walking Tour: Dark Dublin, Dracula, Bram Stoker & Other Horrors

Friday, 24 October 2025 - Monday, 27 October 2025
About this event
Bram Stoker may be Ireland’s most internationally famous writer—perhaps even surpassing James Joyce. Building on earlier Irish horror traditions, Stoker created Dracula, a gothic masterpiece that captured the world’s imagination like no other.
This walk explores his work in the context of his time, influenced by centuries of Irish tales of evil spirits and our uneasy bond with the Underworld. Dublin’s troubled past—marked by foreign rule, bloodshed, fear, and persecution—adds layers of darkness to these stories. We’ll also delve into the eerie works of Stoker’s gothic predecessors, including Charles Maturin, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, and Oscar Wilde, who each envisioned their own versions of the Other World.
