Dublin City Gate

- Free to visit
The Dublin City Gate provides an interesting focal point along Cook Street in Dublin City centre, south of the River Liffey, and behind St Audeon’s Church. Towards the centre of an early 13th century section of wall, is the only remaining intact gate through the medieval walls of the city, known today as St Audeon’s Arch.
The city walls were originally built to protect the inhabitants within. Access was only granted through the gates, which also operated as toll booths for the collection of taxes.
