Jonathan Swift (1667-1745), was the author of Gulliver's Travels, one of the world's greatest satirical fantasies. He was Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin from 1713-1745.
Jonathan Swift expressed his 'savage indignation' at appalling social conditions in Ireland and was often know as the 'Hibernian Patriot'. He studied at Kilkenny School and Trinity College.
He is buried in Saint Patrick’s Cathedral where there is also a monument and a bust is dedicated to him in nearby Trinity College library.
