About this event

During this hands-on workshop, discover the raw materials once used to create inks and pigments that were then used to write and decorate manuscripts over 1,200 years ago.

To mark the opening of Words on the Wave: Ireland and St. Gallen in Early Medieval Europe and the loan of manuscripts from the Abbey of St Gall, Switzerland, come to the Kildare Room and find out about the creation of manuscripts in Early Medieval Ireland.

Take a look at replica objects, including vellum, wax tablets and quills, to see how people in the past learned how to write and create manuscripts. Enjoy some relaxing colouring activities, read through our many books about archaeology.

No booking required. Wheelchair accessible. This workshop is for families. Children must be fully supervised by a parent or adult who is in loco parentis.

Readers are advised to check with the venue before relying on the details published here.
