The Sir John Gray Statue is a freestanding, sculpted Portland limestone figure erected in 1879. The detailed and expertly carved stone monument occupies a prominent site on Lower O'Connell Street.
Sir John Gray (1815-1875) was an Irish physician, surgeon, journalist and politician. The figure on the pedestal, sculpted by Thomas Farrell, commemorates and honours his many endeavours which includes bringing a fresh water supply to Dublin in 1868.
