Hiking in Dublin

Group of people walking the Howth Cliff walk.
A hike in Dublin can be as gentle or as vigorous as your legs can manage.
The cliff walk around Howth’s headland falls somewhere between the two, although no reluctant walker has ever complained once they’ve seen the beauty that awaits them at the top of the hill from the East Pier.

On the southside of the city, the Dublin Mountains Way offers over 40 kilometres of trails through forests and valleys connecting Shankill in the east to Tallaght in the west. You can walk it all or just parts of it: the route is conveniently broken up into three separate sections with different levels of difficulty so you can plan your walk accordingly. The most challenging of all is the Hellfire trail, which is best suited to experienced hill walkers but the views, flora and folklore make this route especially popular.
