About this event

Traveller women talk about the Traveller tradition of flower making while also demonstrating the work. Participate in the craft and hear the stories of the women at St. Patrick's Festival 2024.

Flower making was an important tradition among Traveller women and contributed to the family’s welfare. At this event, a number of Traveller women will recount how they used to make decorative flowers from different types of paper, and how they used the decorative pieces to trade and barter for other goods and services. The bartering system was one that served people well. Going around the houses was an important contact point for Travellers and the majority population and the women have many stories of people they met that reflect the time and give insight into the Traveller experience.

Free event.
