Viking Fest 2018

A former Viking settlement from as early as the 9th century, Dublin (or Dyflin, from the Irish Duiblinn, or 'black pool') has long-standing, deep roots in Norse traditions. All you have to do to find them is peek beneath the surface, and that's just what Viking Fest is all about.

Proudly presented by Dublinia, this festival marks an enormous celebration of the culture which once thrived here in our fair city, one where longships sailed the Liffey and coin minters plied their artful trade. Join the fun over Easter weekend and step back in time to witness displays of Viking weaponry, watch tablet weaving and quern-stone demonstrations, play traditional Viking games and explore two full-size Viking longships which will be moored at Wood Quay for all to enjoy.

Learn about the lives of these fearsome warriors and imagine the Dublin of more than a thousand years ago. The highlight of the festivities will be the very special audiovisual and theatrical extravaganza that will take place in the wonderful historic Wood Quay amphitheatre. A 45-minute experience of film, animation, projection, sound, dance, drumming, battle re-enactment and live action, it's not to be missed.

This amazing performance is free of charge but is ticketed, so be sure to book well in advance.
