Shinrin-yoku Forest Bathing Experience

Shinrin-yoku is a term that developed in the 1980s in Japan that translates roughly as “forest bathing” and it has become an important part of preventative health care in Japanese medicine ever since.

Shirley Gleeson is an accredited forest therapy guide who runs two-hour Shinrin-yoku experiences in the magical forest of Barnaslingan in the Dublin Mountains, just five miles up the road from Enniskerry. During the Shinrin-yoku sessions you will bathe yourself in the forest atmosphere, divorced from technology, screens, phones, and notifications; you are invited to reconnect with nature through mindfulness, sensory awareness, and expressive arts.

Researchers in both Japan and Korea have established a robust body of scientific research demonstrating that spending time under the canopy of living forest has significant health benefits for your stress levels, immune systems, sleep patterns, and mental health.
