  • John Boyd

Free Events

John Boyd is a Slade-trained artist who has spent the last twenty years living and working in Ireland, becoming part of the artistic furniture with his puzzling images.

Boyd’s paintings have their roots in the visual identity of World War II recruitment posters and socialist realism. Throw a little bit of surrealism in there, Rene Magritte style, and you have got an approximation of John Boyd’s art.

You could spend hours considering the strange little quirks in Boyd’s paintings, wondering about what it all means. You might dwell on subjects about Britain, Empire, or even Orwellion fiction.

No matter where the work takes you in your mind’s eye, you will find a lot to enjoy in John Boyd’s work at the Cross Gallery.
