See & Do

Deirdre O'Kane

Back on the stand-up stage now for a few years following a too-long hiatus, Ireland's funnywoman Deirdre O'Kane is a celebrity who has really hit her stride.

The Louth native, who began her career in stand-up comedy in 1996, has toured the world making people laugh with her unique, no-nonsense yet still rather silly brand of social critique, playing the likes of the Edinburgh, Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe festivals and Kilkenny Cat Laughs to heaps of critical praise.

She is also known for her work as an actress, memorably playing the role of Mary in Juno and the Paycock and Noeleen in John Crowley's 2003 feature Intermission, which starred Colin Farrell. On the small screen, she's most recently been seen twisting and turning on Dancing with the Stars, but comedy calls, and this November, fans will be delighted to see her triumphant return to the mic for an evening of straight talk from one of Ireland's funniest.
