Dalkey Book Festival

Over one long weekend, from 13 to 16 June, one hundred speakers from around the world (Italy, Russia, Germany, Lebanon, India, France, UK, US, Korea, Trinidad, Jamaica, Turkey, Singapore, China, Israel, Iran, Afghanistan, and Canada) will gather in Dalkey to mark ten years of the festival.

Global superstars like Stephen Fry and Jony Ive, the man who by designing the three most iconic products of our age the iPod, iPad, and iPhone, has changed your world probably more than any other single living human being, will join some of the world’s leading intellectuals such as three times Pulitzer prize winner, Thomas Friedman, and giants of literature Marlon James, Deborah Levy, Richard Flanagan and Donal Ryan.

You can also hear hotly-anticipated new work from Joseph O’Connor and Kevin Barry. Alongside these established names the festival organisers are delighted to include debut writers such as Emma Dabiri, Sinead Gleeson, Emilie Pine, Lynn Ruane, Wendy Erskine and Kevin Breathnach.

Dalkey has always been much more than a book festival, you can think of it as an ideas festival; with 70 events squeezed into four inspirational days, this festival will cover a truly broad canvas.
Join Donald Trump’s nemesis, former head of the CIA John Brennan or hang with the new voice of liberal Britain broadcaster and best-seller James O’Brien, as they dissect Brexit and Trump. Listen to Turkish firebrand Ece Temelkuran as she warns that good countries do go bad and why we have no room for complacency. As the festival celebrates its first decade, some old friends of the festival, like Fintan O’Toole and Robert Fisk, will be back this year to share their latest thoughts with you.
