Planning a trip to Dublin? You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to planning an itinerary – from galleries, cafés, city bikes, shopping and pop-up events, there’s plenty to see and do. However, if like many of us, you’re excited by the idea of the digital world bringing us all closer, and fancy something a little different during your stay here, why not pop along to a fun tech meetup in Dublin? Here are five of our favourites…

Meetups Dublin for the Tech Community

Pub Standards

@PubStandardsDublin

One of the most fun Dublin meetups in the city is Pub Standards, a relaxed monthly get-together in a Dublin city centre pub for developers, designers and, well – anyone with an interest in the techy side of life! Inspired by the London model, Pub Standards has been running here – in the very cosy Bull & Castle boozer in Christchurch, Dublin 8 – since 2010, and is a great way to network while enjoying an ale or two! “Don’t expect structure, don’t expect presentations,” event organisers Eamon Leonard and Ross Duggan tell us. “Just relax with like-minded people and a few beers.” Sold! Pub Standards takes place on the second Thursday of every month at 6.30pm in the Bull & Castle. Admission is free.

Creative Mornings

@Dublin_CM

We know you’re on your holidays and probably don’t want to set a morning alarm – but hear us out! Creative Mornings is a series of fun breakfast lectures for the creative community that regularly takes place in a whopping 65 cities around the world. Together, organisers come up with a broad theme (which so far have included ‘food’, ‘space’, ‘connect’, ‘happiness’, and currently, ‘childhood’) and each city then invites speakers to present, based around it. What’s more, a yummy breakfast is served up for attendees to enjoy together! Join Creative Mornings Dublin and find out more about talks both past and yet to come. Admission is free.

Open Coffee Dublin

@occdublin

Are you interested in the whole concept of start-ups, and how great ideas can be brought to life? Would you like friendly advice on start-ups from someone in the process of starting their own? Remember, there are some amazing grants and funding options available to those who choose to start up in Ireland! If so, be sure to join the Open Coffee Club, and head along to one of their regular, informal meetings in various city centre cafés. Here, members chat over coffee (or tea!), exchanging ideas and offering support and advice. Admission is free.

Dublin Beta

@dublinbeta

Continuing to explore the very exciting start-up scene, we visit Dublin Beta, an informal and social showcase of the freshest and most creative Irish entrepreneurs. The next instalment of this fun, quarterly gathering takes place on February 24 in the very cool Lost Society bar on South William Street, but keep an eye on the site for future events in Dublin city.

Typically, up to 14 start-ups showcase their wares at Dublin Beta, and as organisers John O’Rourke and Russell Banks tell us, the plan is generally to “talk shop and have the craic.” Sold!

Refresh Dublin

@RefreshDublin

Part of the international Refreshing Cities series, Refresh Dublin is a welcoming community of designers and developers who get together between 8 and 10 times a year for talks. The group’s aim is to provide a cross-discipline insight into interactive, creative and technical design. Just as exciting as the meet-up though is the venue it takes place in; the Science Gallery in Dublin – a fantastic space in the city centre which plays host to some amazing exhibitions. Even if you’re not in town for a Refresh talk, make sure to while away an afternoon in this very cool, creative hub. Admission is free for both.
