  • Sri Rama Navami 2017

Free Events

Over the last one hundred years, Ireland has seen huge growth in the strength of ethnic communities and their assimilation into, and cultural contributions to, the country.

Learning about different cultures and joining friends and neighbours in toasting their holidays and traditions has become one of the loveliest things in modern Irish society, and has given rise to groups like the Irish-Indian Cultural Association.

This celebration on Rama Navani is no different. This feast, which can party on for anything from one to ten days, is a celebration of the birth of the god Rama to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya in Ayodya.

This Hindu feast introduces you to Rama, who was one of the oldest avatars of Vishnu (yes, the word avatar wasn't born with the advent of the internet).

As one of the most important Hindu dates in the calendar, the fun and feasting will be excessive. Expect to dance yourself into a dizzy and eat many Hindu delicacies, and even get your brain warmed up for some quizzing.

Whether you are a member of the Hindu community in Dublin or you want to join your friends and neighbours in cheering on their traditions, do check it out.
