Historic Houses & Castles

Primrose Hill House in Lucan, Co Dublin, is a regency villa attributed to the architect James Gandon. Its political history is connected with Dr Irwin and Eamon de Valera, who were frequent visitors to the house. The house and grounds were part of the Lucan House Demesne.

The 2.5 hectare garden has been curated over the last 40 years by Robin Hall and the late Cicely Hall and has achieved the status of a botanical garden. The plant collection has been created from gardens past and present. There is also a spring garden, available to see in February, June and July.

The gardens are flanked with fields with a developing arboretum and a driveway with mature trees leading to the house.

Facilities include toilets, guided tours, plants for sale. Not suitable for wheelchairs.

2017 Opening dates to be confirmed. It is advised to contact the property directly prior to making arrangements to visit.
