Travel - Getting to Dublin by Air

Getting to Dublin by air is increasingly easy and popular, with many airlines opening new routes and the emergence of cheap air-travel in Europe there has never been a better time to fly to Dublin. Click here for information on Airlines that fly into Dublin.

Dublin International Airport is about 12km north from of city centre, and is well serviced by buses and taxis. The Airport is managed by Aer Rianta (+353 1 7044507). For information on Dublin Airport phone +353 1 8141111, or log on to www.aer-rianta.ie.

Facilities in the Airport include

  • Car Hire Desks open daily from 06.00-23.00 or until the last scheduled flight
  • National bus and rail information – CIE desk open 08.00-18.00 daily
  • Church of Our Lady Queen of Heaven (RC)
  • Hotel transfer service to Holiday Inn and the new Great Southern Dublin Airport Hotel
  • Free nurseries on Departures concourse and beside Check In Area 1. Baby changing facilities in airport toilets
  • Post Office - Mon-Fri 09.00 - 17.00, Sat 09.00 – 12.30
  • Catering facilities include a wide variety of restaurants and bars both in the main terminal building and in the boarding areas
  • Bank - Bank of Ireland in the Departures concourse. Normal banking hours (Mon, Tue, Thur, Fri 10.00 – 16.00, Wed 10.00 – 17.00)
  • Bureaux de Change – Bank of Ireland Bureau de Change in Departures concourse and ICE bureaux in convenient locations around the airport
  • Tourist Information and Reservations service (see below)

 

Tourist Information & Services

Dublin Tourism's Information and Reservations Centre is located on the Arrivals Concourse next to the main arrivals door. We provide a number of services to the visitor arriving into Dublin including:

  • All Ireland Accommodation Reservations Service
  • Assistance with Irish holiday itineraries
  • Retail area with a broad range of maps, guides and books.

The centre operates 363 days a year, from 08.00-22.00

 

Transport from Dublin Airport to the City Centre

A taxi to the city centre should cost from approximately €15.24 to €19.05. There is a taxi rank outside the Arrivals concourse.

There are 6 bus services operating from directly outside the terminal building. The regular bus service (numbers 41/41A/41B/41C) takes about 45 minutes to reach the city centre. The regular buses terminate in the city centre at Eden Quay on the river Liffey. The fare is €1.45. Bus number 16A serves Rathfarnham via the city centre. Bus number 230 operates via Malahide to Portmarnock to the North of the airport.There is also an Airport Express coach service – Airlink. Airlink Number 747will bring you to the central bus station (Busaras) from which coaches depart to all parts of the country. Airlink 748 continues on to Heuston railway station, from which trains to the westerly regions of the country run. Connolly railway station, serving destinations to the North and South of Dublin, is close to Busaras. The fare is €4.50 to Busaras and Heuston Station. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes.Airlink 746 runs from the Airport to Dun Laoghaire, south of the city centre and one of Dublin’s two ferry ports. This journey will cost you €1.45. All of the above bus and coach services are operated by Dublin Bus.

Aerdart is a public transport link between Dublin Airport and anywhere on Dublin's DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transport) and suburban rail network. The major benefit of this service is that it provides a speedy and reliable link to and from the airport avoiding city centre traffic. The Aerdart Shuttle bus operates 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, connecting Dublin Airport to Howth Junction DART Station from 5:45 (Mon – Fri), 6.20 (Sat) and 8.30 (Sun) to 23.45. The service operates every 15 minutes in both directions. Aerdart Tickets cost €5 each way from the airport to any DART station, €3.15 for children.

Aircoach, a private operator, runs its distinctive blue air-conditioned luxury coaches between Dublin Airport and Ballsbridge, via the city centre, servicing many hotels and B&Bs. The service leaves the airport every 15 minutes between 05.00 and 00.00, and every hour from midnight to 05.00. A single journey is €6, return €10. Up to 2 accompanied children are carried free of charge.
