Directed by Karen Carleton for Balally Players, it's familiar signature song runs: "All that long day, from break of dawn until the sun was high, many young men of twenty said goodbye"

‘Many Young Men of Twenty’ considered by many to be one of Keane's finest, is an hilarious and sometimes heart-wrenching commentary on the condition of our country in the dark days of economic hardship nearly five decades ago. The play is set in a public house, the natural home of the impromptu song and there are many songs in the production, as well as colourful characters, language and a great deal of humour. The play deals with emigration and the lack of jobs at home that forced people to leave their native Ireland for England. It describes the emigrants' longing for home - 'Everyone is lonesome leaving home' - their annual homecomings and their return to jobs and places they disliked.

After he had seen the first production of the play the renowned theatre critic John Finnegan wrote in the Evening Herald, "Many Young Men of Twenty is worth half a dozen official reports and a hundred political speeches. It should be compulsory viewing for every TD". Presented by a talented and experienced cast, this production will honour Keanes enduring vision of his own country.

This promises to be a marvellous night out for the whole family with laughs and songs galore and something for everyone to talk over and argue about for days to come.
