CELEBRATING DIVERSITY!

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July 2012

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is delighted to announce dlr FUSION, a FREE event Celebrating Diversity in the People’s Park on Saturday and Sunday 28TH and 29TH July 2012 from 11am – 6pm.

Throughout the weekend the People’s Park will be packed to the brim with numerous activities including interactive Art Workshops where you can create your own kite, sun catcher or willow wall, Circus Workshops teaching stilt walking, juggling and diablo. For our younger audience, Imaginosity, Dublin’s Children’s Museum will be on hand with puppet shows and storytelling while wacky characters from Street Theatre Ireland will mingle and engage with audiences young and old. Our sports area will includes Buntús and Ultimate Frisbee as well as a host of interactive games suitable for every age group. Art exhibitions from local artists Iris O’Connor, Step Up (dl VEC) and the Artisans / St John of God will also be on display in the Park.

A bespoke stage programme of African Drumming, Gospel Music, Dance, Brazilian Music, Indian dance and comedy as well as performances from local groups; The Raging Hormones, CRASH, Dance Theatre Ireland, the Rhythm and Roots Band, Phaze 3 Dance, Comhairle na NÓg and Sallynoggin All Stars dance troupe is scheduled over the two days with other stage highlights including performances by the Discovery Gospel Choir, Tig Linn and the Dublin Gospel Choir.

Embedded within dlr FUSION is an ethos of Social Inclusion, promoting equality, diversity, respect and inclusion and supporting the participation of all members of our Community including RehabCare who will bring us on a musical journey and premiere their original reggae piece and Southside Travellers who invite you to their Campfire Circle to exchange stories and share their diverse rich culture.

The Pop Up Shop (Park Road) provides the backdrop for a number of informative, interactive exhibitions by Plan Ireland, Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders) and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Garda Diversity Committee.

Then, after or during all that, when you are feeling a little bit peckish, you can go to the Tea Rooms, Picnic Area or choose a culinary delight from one of the Market Stalls!
