American music-based comedian Stephen Lynch makes a welcome return with his Lion tour to The Olympia Theatre on Saturday 9th November where he will host a show comprised of songs about acid trips, queer tattoos and reluctant veganism.
Stephen Lynch will always consider himself “a musician trapped in the body of a comedian." His original blend of music-based comedy has earned him fiercely loyal fans around the world thanks in large part to word of mouth, social networking and extensive touring, including past appearances at the Reading and Leeds festivals and headline shows across the UK.
On 13 November, 2012 Stephen released his highly anticipated fifth album, entitled LION. The album debuted in the #1 spot on iTunes and Amazon’s comedy album chart. The album was recorded in Nashville and produced by Doug Lancio, best know for his work with Patti Griffin, and also features Tennessee-based singer/songwriter Courtney Jaye, who adds an unexpected etherealness to her featured vocal tracks. This is their first time collaborating with Lynch.
Born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan Stephen Lynch is the son of a former nun and priest. While growing up he admits that he loved entertaining his family and friends, and that hobby stuck with him through adulthood. In 1996, Stephen moved to New York with the classic big city dream of becoming a performer. While temping during the day, he wrote songs and performed at clubs and underground music venues around Manhattan at night. Stephen quickly developed a devoted fan base. In 2006, Stephen Lynch stepped onto the Broadway stage for the first time in the title role of The Wedding Singer. His performance earned him nominations for some of the highest honors in American Theatre including the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical and the highly coveted Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical Tony. In addition to his 5 albums, he has released an RIAA-certified Gold DVD “Live at the El Rey.”
