Philippe Cassard was born in Besançon, France in 1962 and studied at the Paris Conservatory. He has established an international reputation as concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician since giving a joint recital with Christa Ludwig in Paris in 1985. The same year he was finalist at the Clara Haskil Competition and in 1988 he was the first winner of the Dublin International Piano Competition. His concerto appearances include performances with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic and BBC Wales. He has worked with many conductors including Sir Neville Marriner, Jeffrey Tate, Vladimir Fedossejev, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Raymond Leppard and Charles Dutoit to name but a few.
His performance of the complete piano works of Debussy (four recitals in a single day) received extremely enthusiastic press and media coverage. He has presented the cycle in London Wigmore Hall, Dublin, Paris, Lisbon, Sydney, Vancouver, Singapore and Tokyo. In 2012, he is collaborating with soprano Natalie Dessay, for a recording of Debussy Songs programme, and he will also join pianist François Chaplin for a 2 pianos and 4 hands recital of Debussy works.
We are delighted to welcome him back to the National Concert Hall to celebrate his 50th Birthday with a programme of Chopin, Grieg, Debussy & Liszt.
