Ireland is preparing for one of the biggest sporting events of the year to touchdown when the United States Naval Academy plays host to the University of Notre Dame in the Emerald Isle Classic, presented by The Gathering Ireland 2013. The NCAA college football game takes place Saturday 1st September at 14.00 in the Aviva Stadium. Over 35,000 Americans will arrive in Dublin this week to witness the 86th meeting of one of the greatest traditions in American sports.
The Navy V Notre Dame game will mark the start of the American college football season for these teams and the sold-out game will be fiercely contested. The game traditions will travel with the supporters who will take part in pep-rally events on the eve of the game and tailgate parties on game-day. Close to 1,000 Midshipmen from the Naval Academy will march onto the Aviva Stadium pitch ahead of kick-off and college bands and cheerleaders will also perform, creating one of the most spectacular atmospheres in world of sports.
A subsidiary American football event will take place on Friday 31st August with 12 U.S. and Canadian High School Teams competing in the Global Ireland Football Tournament (G.I.F.T). The teams will compete in three stadiums throughout the day – Navan’s Páirc Tailteann and Dublin’s Parnell Park and Donnybrook Stadia.

Twelve Championship high school and college American football teams from the United States, Canada and the UK will play 3 doubleheader matches in 3 Dublin-area stadiums on Friday August 31 (the day before the US Naval Academy Midshipmen vs University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish game in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium).
