A lifelong commitment to music-making has seen pianist Míceál O’Rourke invited to perform in major venues on four continents. These include the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory, the International Music Centre in Moscow, Saint Petersburg Philharmonia, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, National Concert Hall in Dublin, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Festival Hall in London, Salle Pleyel and Salle Gaveau in Paris, Symphony Hall in Boston as well as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
Since first touring in the Soviet Union in 1979 Míceál has established a close bond with the St. Petersburg Philharmonia, frequently performing there in chamber-music ensembles, as solo recitalist, and as soloist in concerto repertory ranging from Mozart and Chopin to Szymanowski and Lutoslawski. Míceál O’Rourke has also been soloist with such orchestras as the State Philharmonic of Belarus, Boston Pops, Hong Kong Chamber Orchestra, Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian National Philharmonic, London Mozart Players and many others.
Míceál is Professor Emeritus at the State Conservatory of Music in Novosibirsk. He has also lectured and given master-classes at Juilliard School, Royal Irish Academy of Music, the DIT and CIT colleges of music, Hong Kong College of Fine Arts, Beijing and Nanjing Music Academies, State Academy of Music in Vilnius, Chopin Academy of Music in Bialystok, and the State Music Academy in Minsk.
