‘Making Lemonade’ is the debut stage play from a new emerging talent, Sylvia Beatley. In 2012 as part of their fifteen year anniversary celebrations The New Theatre accepted submissions from undiscovered playwrights to present their work to an audience as part of a series of staged readings.
Anthony Fox, artistic director of the New Theatre said “Once I saw Sylvia’s reading of ‘Making Lemonade’ [then entitled ‘Scumbag’], I knew we had to put it on.” Sylvia Beatley was born and bred in Neillstown, North Clondalkin. ‘Making Lemonade’ is her razor sharp, non- apologetic response to the current wave of glamorised gun crime in Ireland today. The play invites us to experience first-hand a day in the life of ‘Blade’: A criminal, a scumbag, a father. The play is shocking in its content and is only suitable for age groups of 16 years and older.
