James have announced details of a headline show in The Olympia Theatre on Friday 23rd August. The legendary Manchester band, who have released 12 albums and sold more than 13 million albums worldwide, will be performing songs from their extensive back catalogue. 

Formed in Manchester in 1982, James have become one of the most influential British indie bands with an array of hits spawning 30 years. The band consists of Tim Booth (singer), Jim Glennie (bass), Larry Gott (guitars), Saul Davies (guitar, violin), Mark Hunter (keyboards), David Baynton-Power (drums) and Andy Diagram (trumpet). James’ biggest hits include Sit Down, She Is A Star, Laid and Getting Away With It All. The band have got 20 Top 40 singles in UK under their belt.

Their album “Laid” has shipped almost a million copies in the US, and has been further fuelled of late for its usage throughout the American Pie film & sequels.

Sit Down reached #2 in UK Singles Chart and became the biggest selling song in the UK in 1991. Their 2007 UK reunion tour sold over 35,000 tickets in 2 hours. The following year James came back with a sell out UK Arena tour.

James have mounted 3 successful North American tours since their reformation in 2008, 2010 and 2012. The band have headlined and performed at most big festivals globally across their expansive career including Glastonbury, Lollapolloza, Rock In Rio, Coachella, Hard Rock Calling, Isle of Wight, Latitude, V Festival and T in The Park and many more.In 2011 James embarked on a career retrospective tour accompanied by an orchestra and choir playing iconic British venues including The Royal Albert Hall. The tour sold out within 2 days after the announcement.

In 2011 James received a PRS Heritage Award alongside such bands as Blur, Pink Floyd, Status Quo, Elton John, Snow Patrol for their contribution to British MusicIn 2012 the band were voted The Best Manchester band ever In beating the likes of Oasis and The Smiths. In 2012 James released a tribute box set called ‘The Gathering Sound’ on Mercury Records, which collects their catalogue across a remarkable 30 year career, plus unreleased material, videos, a live dvd and a book.
