Jack of Diamonds Rhythm & Roots Festival

The Jack of Diamonds Rhythm & Roots Festival aims to bring the best roots music to Dublin.

Taking its name from Rory Gallagher’s version of an old folk song ‘The Cuckoo' it is the only Rhythm and Roots festival in Dublin. Rhythm & Roots stretches across many spectrums of music we aim to bring them all together underneath the venue roofs of Dublin City and then blow them off again!!!

We feel very strongly about having our city see and hear this wonderful music and promise you will not be disappointed by what it oers. The second annual Jack of Diamonds Rhythm and Roots festival takes place August 16th- 18th 2013. This city centre based festival takes place in some of Dublin’s best-loved live music venues. Entertainment will include live music, performance and dance workshops, pop up bands and busking trails.

Jack of Diamonds Productions has many years of collective experience between its members. For many years now, we have been running gigs and events in venues across Ireland, promoting acts both at home and abroad. We have also been running a stage at the KnockanStockan Independent Music Festival for three years, and will be again this July. We will present some of the most exciting, up and coming rhythm and roots artists from all over the country and become Dublin city’s only rhythm and roots festival.

This three-day multi- disciplinary event endeavours to provide a platform for performers of rockabilly, roots, rock and roll, folk, blues, traditional, bluegrass and country music and has established itself as an important date on the cultural calendar each year. During the day, Jack of Diamonds Rhythm and Roots Festival will host workshops in; guitar, banjo, mandolin, double bass, harmonica and vocals alongside swing dancing and lyndi hop classes. Sit down pub sessions will also be taking place all day. Pop up busking bands will play music along a planned route through the city to create an inclusive and engaging atmosphere.

Applications for music slots have exceeded expectation and more than forty well known rhythm and roots acts have already been booked. A number of venues have already come on board. These include: Whelan’s, The button factory, The Workmans Club, Sweeney’s Mongrel, The Mercantile and The Grand Social, The festival will be completely free of charge with exception of the workshops
