Since beginning in 2000, the festival's main goal is to develop and strengthen the links between Ireland and France. A showcase for the artists involved, the festival also offers an Irish audience the opportunity to discover French writers.

This year the festival will host Irish and French writers and also one from Quebec in Canada, Germany and Northern Ireland. These writers are chosen in close co-operation with Irish partners & other members of the panel representing the Irish universities and the Press. Some of the participating writers will visit secondary schools and universities to discuss their work.

The theme of the thirteenth edition of the Franco-Irish Literary Festival is 'Pleasure'. Throughout the three days this theme and its various aspects will be explored through four round-table discussions: what is pleasure; writing, reading and pleasure; forbidden pleasures; and pleasure of the senses.
