Culture Night at IMMA

The Irish Museum of Modern Art is taking part in Culture Night 2013 on Friday 20 September. On the night you can visit the extraordinary exhibition of the work of Surrealist artist Leonora Carrington, the first major retrospective of her work in Ireland. Join us for some great family activities, explore the magical world of Carrington’s paintings in a collaborative drawing, follow the Culture Night Family Trail to IMMA, and join a special gallery talk on Carrington by curator Seán Kissane.

Also on the night, the IMMA Café, itsa@IMMA, is offering Irish Tapas on the Terrace featuring small plates of smoked meats and cheeses from Fingal Ferguson's Gubbeen Smokehouse and organic smoked salmon from Brigitta Curtin's Burren Smokehouse in County Clare. There is also a special children friendly area with homemade cookies, brownies, lemonade and some treats for mums and dads too!

Leonora Carrington (Lancashire 1917 – Ciudad de México 2011) was the daughter of a British father and an Irish mother from Co Westmeath. When she was 19, she moved to London and Paris, where she became a central figure in the Surrealist movement exhibiting with artists such as André Breton, Max Ernst and others. This iconic exhibition is a timely rediscovery of this Surrealist painter and her role in the Surrealist art movement.
