Aspects of surnames in Irish place names
Visit the National Library of Ireland this Summer. As part of our contribution to The Gathering, we are hosting a series of lunchtime lectures on different aspects of Irish family history research in July and August 2013. Lectures will take place in the Seminar Room at 1pm and will last approximately 30 minutes Attendance is Free, no booking required just drop in on the day.

On Monday 19 August join Conchubhar Ó Crualaoich, from An Brainse Logainmneacha for a discussion on Aspects of surnames in Irish placenames
Dr Conchubhar Ó Crualaoich has worked in the Placenames Branch since 2000. Prior to this he lectured in Old Irish, and Medieval Irish Studies over 6 years in Maynooth as well as tutoring German in NUI Maynooth’s Language Centre. In addition to his work in researching Placenames he has written numerous articles in academic journals and will be publishing a two volume book on the Placenames of Wexford later this year. He has a particular interest in the occurrence of surnames in townland names.
