Agents of Architecture

Agents of Architecture is an ongoing series of national and international talks curated by the Irish Architecture Foundation in partnership with the Irish Museum of Modern Art, aimed at expanding the practice of architecture to include people who work with architecture either by curating it, or designing it, or redefining it, or questioning it. High profile international and local people will be invited as agents of architecture to speak about their involvement in architecture, their understanding of its definition, from the typical to the most unorthodox views.

Please note that talks take place in various locations.

Anne Lacaton, Lacaton & Vassal, Paris
Anne Lacaton was born in France in 1955. She graduated at the school of architecture of Bordeaux, in 1980, and got a diploma of urban planning at the university of Bordeaux in 1984. She is teaching as visiting professor at the University of Madrid (Spain) since 2007, and taught at the Ecole Polytechnique in Lausanne (Switzerland), in 2004, 2006 and 2010-11. Together with Jean Phillippe Vassal, they created the office Lacaton & Vassal in 1989, based in Paris. The office has a practice in France, as well as an international practice, working on various programs of buildings and urban planning. They have received several awards among them the Equerre d’Argent award 2011, with Frédéric Druot, France, the Grand Prix National d’Architecture, France, 2008, the Daylight & Building Components Award, Velum Fonden, Denmark, 2011, and the International Fellowship of the Royal Insitute of British Architects in 2009. Their work has been nominated several times for the Mies Van der Rohe Award, European Prize for Contemporary Architecture, and specially shortlisted in 2007 for the Management Sciences University, Bordeaux, France and in 2003 for the Palais de Tokyo, a site for contemporary creation in Paris, France.

Eva Franch, Director, Storefront for Art and Architecture, New York
Eva Franch i Gilabert is an architect, researcher, and teacher, founder of OOAA (office of architectural affairs) and in 2010 she became the Director of Storefront for Art and Architecture in New York, a nonprofit organization that through a program of exhibitions, projects, events and publications is committed to the advancement of innovative positions in architecture, art, design and the built environment. Franch studied at TU Delft, at ETS Arquitectura Barcelona where she received her Master in Architecture with Honors in 2003 and at Princeton University where she received the Suzanne Kolarik Underwood Prize and her M.Arch II degree in 2007. Franch received the La Caixa (2005-2007) full fellowship in residence for postgraduate studies, the FAD prize for emerging architects, a Pasajes-iGuzzini prize, a Dragados Foundation prize and she has been a fellow at Schloss Solitude. Franch has taught at UB as the Peter Reyner Banham Fellow (07-08) and at Rice University (08-10) as the Master Thesis Studio Director. Franch’s work has been exhibited at the Center for Architecture NY, Korean Institute of Architects in Daegu, NAI Rotterdam and Shenzen Biennale of Architecture, among others. Recent publications include “Ecologies of Excess” in AD (2010). Franch has been a visiting critic and has lectured internationally.
