The South Coast and Powerscourt Gardens Tour encompasses a fully guided tour along the most breathtaking spots of Dublin’s south coast. From the top of a double deckeer bus the views are unsurpassed taking in Dun laoghaire, Sandycove and Bray along the coast line. At Dun Laoghaire, you will see the picturesque yacht filled harbour, in Sandycove the James Joyce Tower and you will get a moment to stretch your legs along the promenade of Bray beach. As the tour heads inland and ascends the Wicklow Mountains, one will enter through the village of Enniskerry before reaching Powerscourt. The most distinctive feature of this village is its clock tower which dates from 1843 and which was erected to the Wingfield family the then owners of the nearby Powerscourt Estate.
The famous Powerscourt Estate was commissioned by Richard Wingfield, the first Viscount Powerscourt in the 1730’s. At the foot of the Great Sugar Loaf Mountain it supplies breathtaking views and it is probably no wonder that it has featured in many motion picture productions such as Laurence Olivier’s ‘Henry V’ and Mel Gibson’s ‘Braveheart.’ The tour will allow you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the estate taking in its Italian, Japanese and walled gardens and the poignant and unusual pets cemetery as well as the famous Avoca Irish Handweavers shop and restaurant and Tara’s Palace toy museum.
After enjoying the estate and gardens to you will return to your tour guide for a fully commentated journey back to Dublin. Before returning to Dublin, the tour passes through the dramatic geographical fault known as The Scalp and the ever changing scenery of the Wicklow and Dublin mountains.
