Glasnevin Cemetery – Irelands Necropolis is a must see for those with an interest in Irish History & Heritage, Glasnevin Cemetery walking tour visits the final resting place of Daniel O'Connell, Ireland's 'Liberator' from the penal laws; Michael Collins, Freedom Fighter and Minister for Finance in the first Dail; Eamon DeValera, 1916 veteran, 7 times Taoiseach, twice President; CharlesStewart Parnell, 'the uncrowned king of Ireland' agitator for Home Rule and leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party in the 1880's; Maud Gonne Mac Bride; revolutionary, muse to W.B. Yeats and mother of Sean McBride; countess Marcievicz, 1916 veteran, lifelong republican; Brendan Behan, writer, republican, Dublin wit; and many of the other men and women who have shaped Ireland's history.
Tours:
Glasnevin Trust are now running daily walking tours of Glasnevin Cemetery 2.30pm, giving a valuable insight to this unique burial place and into the final resting-place of the men and women who have helped shape Ireland's past and present.
The tour commences at the entrance of the cemetery. The Tours are given by Shane MacThomais and his team of tour guides. Shane is Glasnevin Trusts Historian, Education & Development Manager and has been the official tour guide to Glasnevin Cemetery for over ten years.
