On yer bike…
Did you know Dublin is one of the world’s most bike-friendly cities? That’s according to the Copenhagenize Index. “Dublin is the Great Bike Hope among Emerging Bicycle Cities,” it says, crediting Dublin Bikes and “ballsy” political will for taking things to the next level.
Dublin Bikes is the city’s bike-sharing scheme, with rides stationed all over the city for quick and easy use. Or what about taking a city tour with See Dublin by Bike? The eco-friendly trip does exactly what it says on the tin, with lots of fun and photo ops along the way.
Not all cycling has to be done in the city, of course. The Ticknock Mountain Bike Trail is an 8km loop stitched into the Dublin Mountains, a rollercoaster ride of hairpin berms, wicked boulders and technical rocky bits just a half-hour from the city centre.
Wakedock is Ireland’s first cable wakeboard park, a brilliant city activity set in the bustling Grand Canal Dock neighbourhood. Think of it as snowboarding on water – except you hold a handle, the handle pulls you, a cable pulls the handle and… you get wet. If you’re good, you can up the ante with a kicker and slider. Either way, you’ll have a blast.
