Lecture: Portraying George Yeats: The medium and the message
Lecturer: Professor Ann Saddlemyer, Visiting Professor, University of Victoria
Object of the Month: Portrait of George Yeats by Edmund Dulac
WB Yeats married Georgina Hyde Lees on 20 October 1917. During their honeymoon, George began to receive messages through automatic writing. From 1918, these messages formed the basis for the system developed in A Vision, Yeats’ major philosophical work. In this lecture, the life of George Yeats will be discussed by Professor Ann Saddlemyer, the author of Becoming George: The life of Mrs. W.B. Yeats (Oxford University Press, 2002).
