The Great Hunger, by Patrick Kavanagh
Peter Duffy, a Monaghan native performs this epic poem, set in rural Monaghan of the 1930/40s. Following the life and struggles of the anti-hero, small famer, Patrick Maguire. An un-sentimental portrait of the life and times, it has echoes of The Great Famine in the title and the text. Arguably Kavanagh’s best work, a masterpiece.
