KBC Music Great in Irish Houses Festival

The six-day KBC Great Music in Irish Houses festival is taking place from 11th – 16th June and will feature 11 world-class performances by leading international artists in iconic buildings across Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare.

Concerts by Bach specialist, Angela Hewitt, and legendary clarinettist, Michael Collins are amongst the highlights this year. There is also a remarkable feast of string quartets and quintets by some of today’s finest exponents of this wonderful music and a four-concert showcase of the chamber music of Benjamin Britten, commemorating the centenary of his birth.

Festival venues range from the traditional and historic to contemporary and rejuvenated sites. For the first time there will be a performance in, The Irish Waterways Visitor Centre, affectionately known as “The Box on the Docks” and a return to perennial favourites, Killruddery House and Castletown House, birth-place of the Festival.

Convenient City centre venues include The Freemason’s Hall, Molesworth Street; The Peppercanister Church on Mount Street and Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane on Parnell Square ,which is offering a free concert to Festival patrons as part of the Benjamin Britten micro-festival.

Historic Dublin sites are Christ Church Cathedral, where the Heath Quartet will be joined by the brilliant clarinettist, Michael Collins and Dublin’s ‘oldest newest Theatre’, Smock Alley where celebrated Irish tenor and acknowledged Britten interpreter, Robin Tritschler joins an international line-up of musicians in highlighting Britten’s remarkable music.
