Giro d'Italia Big Start
The epic spectacle Giro d’Italia 2014 arrives in Ireland on Sunday 11th May.
Come and see the world’s elite cyclists battle it out for the pink jersey en route from Armagh to Dublin in the final stage of the Grande Partenza (The Big Start)
The first two stages will take place in Northern Ireland while on day three, a massive 22 teams of nine riders per team – almost 200 in total – of the best cyclists in the world will race from Armagh to Dublin for the final stage before heading back to Italy.
The Giro’s pink jersey is one of the most iconic sporting emblems in the world.
There are plenty of wonderful viewing points along the route giving you the chance to get up close and personal to the world’s cycling greats. Come out and line the streets of Dundalk to witness the best sprinter. While Castlebellingham marks the point just past halfway and brings a relatively flat approach to Dublin via Drogheda, Balbriggan and they race the final stretch along through seaside suburb of Clontarf, into Dublin city centre to a race finish line in Merrion Square.
First organised in 1909 the Giro gained prominence and is now one of the world’s largest sporting events, with 12.5 million live spectators over the three weeks of the event.
