Now that the days are short and cold, the fright of Halloween behind us and the exuberance of summer parties fading into memory, all eyes and thoughts are turning towards Christmas and the annual search for unique, perfect or just down-right quirky gifts for friends and family.
The SCOOP Foundation has the answer!
The second annual Better Than Socks Christmas gift auction returns this December to the splendid surrounds of the Powerscourt Centre, South William Street. On offer will be some exciting gift ideas, so if your Mum loves RTÉs Fair City, get her a walk on part. If your Dad is DIY savvy, let him try his hand at a day’s Blacksmithing at Russborough House; or if you want to help a friend ring in 2013 in a unique way, you can make them a Christchurch Cathedral bell-ringer on New year's Eve. Plus many, many more gifts to make a loved one’s Christmas extra special. All of these original and bespoke items have been donated by our kind sponsors and friends alike and promise to be better gifts than socks have ever been.
The lucky bidders will each receive a beautifully designed ‘SCOOPon’, with information about the projects that they are helping to fund and everything they need to know to redeem their gift.
The SCOOP Foundation raises funds to build schools and support education programs in the poorest parts of Cambodia and India. Founded in 2009 by CEO Andrew Sweeney, we have completed construction of a school in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and currently focusing our attention on building a second school in Varanasi India and supporting the work of our partner charity ‘Basic Human Needs’ providing education and shelter to street kids in this impoverished area of the country. Both of these projects have directly benefited from all the €10,000 raised last year by ‘Better Than Socks’, let’s make this year go further. The SCOOP Foundation is run entirely by volunteers, ensuring all funds raised go where they are most needed; helping to end the cycle of poverty.
