An Enemy of the People by Henrik Ibsen adapted by Arthur Miller

Low Price Previews from Thursday 23rd May 2013 Opening Night: Tuesday 28th May 2013

'The strongest man in the world is he who stands most alone.'

A small town in Norway has just begun to win fame and fortune for the supposed health-giving properties of its spring waters. The town is expecting a surge in tourism and prosperity from the new baths, which are a source of great local pride. When Dr. Stockmann, resident physician in charge, discovers that the waters are poisoned he is shocked to find that instead of being rewarded for his efforts to bring this important secret to light he is attacked, denounced and shunned by the authorities and his fellow townspeople.

Originally written by the great Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen and then adapted by American playwright Arthur Miller, An Enemy of the People is the story of one brave man’s struggle to do the right thing and speak the truth in the face of extreme social intolerance. This is a play of romantic individualism which addresses the corruption and inherent failings at the heart of the democratic system.

Directed by Wayne Jordan

Set Design by Paul O’Mahony

Costume Design by Joan O’Clery

Cast includes: Fiona Bell, Declan Conlon, Denis Conway, Ronan Leahy and Barry McGovern
