Dublin Discovery Trails

A unique way to experience Dublin

If you’re new to Dublin and want to explore the city’s hidden (and not so hidden) treasures, the Dublin Discovery Trails are for you.

Dublin Discovery Trails, launching late 2014, are plotted along The Dubline. That’s Dub-line. A line through Dublin, forming an orientation route which guides you effortlessly to some of the City’s most visited sites and attractions. Extending from Kilmainham Gaol through to Trinity College and Parnell Square, The Dubline connects all the city centre based Dubin Discovery Trails.

Each self-guided walking trail has been designed to deliver a unique and immersive Dublin experience and will be supported by the Dublin Discovery Trails app. This app will bring the compelling stories of Dublin to life through a series of engaging audio guides enriched with personal accounts, maps, images and videos.

You’ll see big hits like Trinity College, Dublin Castle and Kilmainham Gaol. But you can also listen to the music, taste the Guinness and kick back with Dubliners as you go.

It’s both a heritage trail and a chance to take the pulse of a modern city. Beyond the main tourist attractions, there are hidden places where you’ll find a rich culture, vibrant arts, iconic architecture, great food made by passionate people, nature and so much more.

Dublin Discovery Trails are about wandering off the beaten track and uncovering some of Dublin’s secrets, waiting to be revealed to the curious, before re-orientating yourself back onto The Dubline, ready for your next experience.

Each trail is simple to navigate, easy on the feet and has an exciting, revealing theme. Do just one, or do them all!

Choose from the following trails, each of which takes approximately 2 hours on foot:

•    Rebellion – Six days that divided Dublin – retrace the dramatic events of the Easter Rising 1916: the rebellion that ripped apart the centre of Dublin and changed the course of Irish history forever.

•    Story of Dublin – Through Streets broad and narrow – Discover the highs and lows of Dublin’s 1000 year history, from Viking ships to Norman warlords and from English Kings to Irish rebels.

•    Echoes of War – A stroll through the history of Kilmainham – Explore Kilmainham where you will discover some of the City’s most unforgettable attractions with stories of war and rebellion around every corner of this beautiful place.

•    Empire - British Empire days in Dublin - Go back in time to the busy streets of Dublin when it was one of the most important Cities in the British Empire, where the fabulously rich and the desperately poor lived side by side.
