A Waterways Ireland Walking Tour
The tour begins in the Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre located on Grand Canal Quay and explores Grand Canal Dock from its historical development in the 18th century that changed the shape of Dublin city to its recent redevelopment as an exciting new urban landscape at the heart of the city.
Our guides will explain the role of Waterways Ireland as guardians of the waterways and describe the unique position of our canals as historical highways, important environmental habitats and recreational treasures.
You will hear the story of the Royal and Grand canals and the race to reach the Shannon.
