Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre
The Waterways Ireland Visitor Centre is your Gateway to the Waterways floating on the water of the Grand Canal Basin.
We host daily walking tours beginning in the Visitor Centre on the Grand Canal Quay and explores Grand Canal Dock from its development in the 18th century that changed the shape of Dublin to its recent 21st century rebirth that has created a new urban landscape for the city. You will hear the story of the Royal and Grand canals and the race to reach the Shannon.
You can admire this fantastic mix of industrial and modern architecture, find out what life in the past was like living and working in Dublin’s Docklands and discover how the canals played a consistent role in the history of the city’s economic, social and cultural development.
Inside the centre we have hands on activities including demonstrating driving a barge and an interactive quiz testing your knowledge of Ireland’s Waterways.
We also provide advice, guides, maps and charts for those planning on using the waterways and the activities on and around them.
Our unique location on the water, in the city and its architectural award winning structure makes the centre, ideal to hire for exhibitions, launches, photo shoots and events.
