A bridge of many names, it was built Arran Bridge in 1683 but renamed Queens Bridge following a complete post-flood rebuild in 1764. Another queen entirely, the legendary Irish Queen Maeve, was bestowed the honour in 1923. Its current title commemorates Lieutenant General Liam Mellows who was executed during the Irish Civil War.
