Dublin City Council is the democratic body governing Dublin City. It is the largest Local Authority in the country with a staff of 6,200 approx and it provides a wide range of services for its citizens and businesses.

Dublin City covers an area of 11,496 hectares and has a population of 495,781.

Dublin City Council is changing rapidly to cope with the pressures of the changing city. New political and organisational structures are being put in place to ensure that the city works well for people and business. These include:

Strategic Policy Committee with Elected Members and representatives from business, community etc.

so local issues can be identified, debated and resolved locally and quickly. Area Regeneration and Community Development Programmes to achieve social, economic, physical and environmental regeneration of parts of the city and county that have so far not shared in our current economic success.

An Economic Development Unit has been set up within Dublin City Council, providing a one-stop-shop for developers and investors interested in Dublin.

Establishment of the City Development Board

A Corporate Plan has been adopted by the City Council setting out our strategic objectives from 2005 to 2009.
