Ben Edar is the ancient Irish name for Howth. Ben is the old Irish word for hill and it is possible that Edar was a chieftain of the Tuatha De Danann, a Celtic tribe. The name Howth comes, from the Norse word, Hoved, which means Head. Claremont Beach is a small cove like beach situated close to the harbour in Howth. As with most other coastal towns in the Fingal area, Howth is a haven for beach goers during the summer months. There are a number of food and drink establishments located along the Harbour Road and it is also a hot spot for coastal, scenic walks.
Howth is served by the No. 31 and No. 31B bus service from Dublin City Centre. The bus stop is situated right beside the beach. A regular DART service runs from Howth train station and again the station is right next to the beach!
