A brisk walk to rid of the cobwebs on a Sunday afternoon or a romantic stroll to take in the incredible views or Dalkey Island and Dublin Bay. Watching the white sails of the yachts racing on a summers evening or absorbing the rich maritime heritage.
It is no wonder that some 1.3 million people walk Dun Laoghaire’s East Pier every year, passing jangling masts and an elegant bandstand en route to the 19th-century battery at the harbour mouth. It’s tradition to touch (or kick!) the wall here before turning back, and remember that the pier is a mile long, so you can fully justify that ice-cream cone at Teddy’s afterwards
